I'm still far from fast, but I've been doing some work trying to get my legs to turn over faster, while staying relaxed and maintaining form. At the track last night our NBR coach for the night (thanks, M!) timed our Yasso 800's. I ran fairly consistently, and finished my last two (numbers 7 and 8) with 3:08 and 3:10. On the eight and last, once I heard my time of 1:30 for my first 400 split, I got scared and slowed down. I think if I were mentally stronger I could have pushed the last lap (heck, it's just a 400, right?) Maybe it's time to add some meditation to the mix.
Today I ran a nice tempo run through Greenpoint, and ended up at the track for 8 x 100s, focusing mainly on my turnover speed. I hope that as I learn what it feels like to go faster it will become less scary. I'm sure it will continue to hurt, but I kind of like that. Heck, the fear is kind of cool, too.
Run well,
